The Sacred Bean is a fabulous coffee house following in the footsteps of the Poets & Patriots, Mr. Toots, and The Ugly Mug all of Santa Cruz CA and the likes of which we didn't think we would ever find once leaving that magical place. But since the opening of The Sacred Bean, we feel like once again we have found "our place". The baristas are excellent, talented and not hard on the eyes. Francesco, the owner, knows his coffees and teas, serving only the best organic brews. He, Marcello the Wonder Dog and the great crew have made it one of our favorite spots, and we want everyone to know about it.
Last night was very festive for the upcoming All Hallowed Eve. Friday is always Random Acts of Talent night, an open mic forum where talented locals come perform in an atmosphere of celebration and acceptance. But last night was exceptional. Pumpkins carved by the staff were on exhibit to be voted on for "The Best" and they were excellent. Performers from guitarists and singers to belly dancers entertained everyone. But the secret visit of "MJ" and the THRILLING choreography of The Zombies of Da Bean had everyone on their feet, putting their hands together, and the show brought down the house. If you haven't been to "Da Bean" get yourself there!!! And tell them Pirate Roy and his wench Jane sent you.
